Mini rugby is designed to introduce the sport of rugby union to children. It uses a smaller ball and pitch than standard rugby and has eight players a side.

The modified version of the game has an emphasis on fun and participation under the Australian Rugby Union Pathway rules.

Hornsby will field X mini rugby teams in X age groups in 2017.

Under 6’s, under 7’s, under 8’s and under 9’s.

Mini team play generally on Saturday mornings from about 830am during the season and welcome both boys and girls into the Hornsby teams.

Under 6 and under 7 teams play 7 a side involving a two handed tag rather than a tackle and pass rather than rucks and mauls.

Tackling is introduced in under 8’s as is rucking and mauling with the playing field increased to half size.

Under 9’s increase the number of players to 10 players each team.
